MP calls on local people to back a real banking inquiry
Batley and Spen MP Mike Wood is calling on local people to help press the government into holding a judge-led inquiry into the banking system.
Following on from the revelations about the behaviour of Barclay's last week, it was agreed to hold a Parliamentary inquiry.
But Mr Wood is among the large number of MPs who want the government to call a full scale, judge-led inquiry into the scandal.
Mr Wood said: "There is a demand for real change in banking. But we cannot do this properly unless we know much more about what is really going on."
"Sadly the prime minister couldn't to the right thing and instead ordered his MPs to vote against taking a real look at the culture and practices of the banking industry."
Mr Wood urged local people to sign the petition calling on the government to go further.
